Overview

Thomas Edward Lawrence, conocido universalmente como Lawrence de Arabia, nació en Gales en 1888. Su interés por Oriente Medio fue temprano: viajó muy joven por Palestina y Siria, y tras su graduación trabajó como ayudante de excavaciones para el Museo Británico en el río Eufrates. Destinado al departamento de inteligencia militar en El Cairo, a partir de 1916 colaboró activamente con la rebelión árabe contra la dominación turca. Al lado de Feisal, uno de los hijos de Hussein, combatió con inteligencia y audacia. Es famosa la larga marcha de casi mil kilómetros que emprendió a través del desierto para sorprender a los turcos y tomar Áqaba, en el Mar Rojo. Tras la toma de Damasco por las tropas insurgentes regresó a Inglaterra, donde topó con la política de Francia e Inglaterra, que pretendían perpetuarse en Siria la primera y en Iraq la segunda. En 1923 inició la redacción de una obra capital sobre su experiencia en la guerra del desierto: LOS SIETE PILARES DE LA SABIDURÍA. El libro pasó sin pena ni gloria, lo cual fue achacado por algunos a su considerable extensión. Decepcionado por el fracaso, pero animado por sus amigos, Lawrence realizó un compendio más breve, tratando de no suprimir nada sustancial: así nació REBELIÓN EN EL DESIERTO. REBELIÓN EN EL DESIERTO se convirtió de inmediato en un bestseller. No es de extrañar, pues combina la pasión por el descubrimiento de una cultura y un pueblo que lucha por su libertad con la brillante descripción de ataques relampagueantes, viajes imposibles por el desierto, atrevidos actos de sabotaje y victorias inverosímiles. Muchos años más tarde, David Lean tomaría el libro como base para su conocida película Lawrence de Arabia. La energía solar térmica transforma la radiación solar en energía calorífica a diferentes temperaturas:

• Baja temperatura, captación directa, la temperatura del fluido está por debajo del punto de ebullición.
• Media temperatura, captación de bajo índice de concentración, la temperatura del fluido es más elevada de 100ºC.
• Alta temperatura, captación de alto índice de concentración, la temperatura del fluido es más elevada de 300ºC.

En la presente edición nos vamos a centrar en las aplicaciones a baja temperatura, que utilizan captadores con fluido caloportador como medio de transferencia energética. Los sistemas de medias o altas temperaturas se utilizan en la producción de vapor y electricidad (centrales termosolares).
